Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of medical staff communication skills training and patient satisfaction on medical team performance at Permata Husada Hospital, Yogyakarta. The research employs a quantitative approach using a survey method administered to outpatient and inpatient patients selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression after passing validity and reliability tests. Descriptively, respondents’ perceptions of the three variables indicate a positive trend, with the majority categorizing communication skills, satisfaction, and team performance at a high level. Hypothesis testing reveals that communication training has no significant partial effect on medical team performance (β = –0.005; p = 0.731). Conversely, patient satisfaction has a positive and significant effect (β = 0.084; p = 0.004). Simultaneously, both independent variables significantly influence team performance (F = 4.381; p = 0.013), although the coefficient of determination is relatively low (R² = 0.025). These findings confirm that communication serves as an indirect foundation, whereas patient satisfaction acts as the primary indicator of performance assessment within Yogyakarta’s competitive private healthcare market. It is recommended that hospital management improve training consistency, particularly during peak hours and for elderly patients, and prioritize patient satisfaction as a strategic lever for service differentiation and continuous quality improvement aligned with patient expectations.
